2011 Pharmacy Business Awards hails the best of community pharmacy
Bina and Dushyant Patel of Blakeberry Pharmacy in East Ham, London, took the top accolade, the Pharmacy Business of the Year Award.
The 2011 Pharmacy Business Awards saw community pharmacists hailed for their achievements at an eventful ceremony at the Park Plaza Hotel in London.
Bina and Dushyant Patel of Blakeberry Pharmacy in East Ham, London, took the top accolade, the Pharmacy Business of the Year Award, for what was considered by the judging panel as the complete pharmacy servicing its community with a range of services.
“We're over the moon,” enthused Dushyant. “It's a fantatsic honour to be recognised as the best pharmacy in this category. We're all very proud and we will continue to work very hard in providing the best health care for our patients.”
The night was awash with accolades. The Pharmacy Business Enterprise Award  went to Will Hughes of RJ Jones Pharmacy in Nefyn, North Wales while the Pharmacy Business Pharmacy Chain of the Year Award was collected by the Day Lewis Group and its CEO Kirit Patel MBE.
The Pharmacy Assistant of the Year Award went to Iwona Garncarek of Colnbrook Pharmacy in Slough. “I'm very proud to have won this award. It makes me very happy but we all work so hard,” she said clutching the trophy.
Ashok Mehta of Davina Pharmacy in Tyldesley picked up the Pharmacy Business Innovation Award   while Surinder Kalsi of Kalsi Pharmacy in Barking beat off some stiff competition to claim the Pharmacy Business Prescriber of the Year Award.
The outstanding young pharmacist of the year was Tommy Ling of Day Lewis Pharmacy in Northallerton. “It's a challenging time for pharmacy but a time for us to rise to that challenge. There are so many opportunities for pharmacy,” he said.
The Pharmacy Business Patient Services Award went to Devshi Chandegra of Barkantine Pharmacy in East London, while the Pharmacy Business Entrepreneur of the Year award was scooped by Deepak and Kiran Bilakhia of Carrington Pharmacy in Carrington.
The Pharmacy Business Team of the Year Award went to Peter Buckley Pharmacy in Clitheroe and the Pharmacy Business Community Award winner was Kaushik Patel of Jaywick Pharmacy in Clacton on Sea. “I'm proud of what we have achieved. It's recognition of all our work and we will keep up that good work.”
Teva UK were named Pharmacy Business Generic Manufacturer of the Year, the winner of the Pharmacy Business OTC Manufacturer of the Year award was GlaxoSmithKline while the Pharmacy Business Innovation in Generics Award went to Actavis.
The title of Pharmacy Business OTC Brand of the Year was claimed by Nuromol and Dr Keith Ridge, chief pharmaceutical officer at the Department of Health, took the Editor's Award for his outstanding contribution to pharmacy.
