Following a large number of enquiries to its Information Service, Numark has produced a Malaria Prophylaxis resource which is now available free of charge to members. Michael Stewart, information pharmacist, said: “Travel advice, particularly on malaria, is a subject that we regularly receive calls about with questions such as ‘What should I recommend for a traveller to India?’ or ‘Can chloroquine be recommended for a patient with renal impairment?’ We have therefore produced a booklet to support our members when advising on the appropriate actions and medication to take when travelling to a malarious region.
“This is just one advantage of the new information service we offer; we can identify issues that our members have and then respond with tools to support them.”
The resource contains:
- Information on the symptoms of malaria
- Actions to prevent mosquito bites
- Guidance for patients with existing medical conditions
- A comprehensive chart with country and region-specific information relating to the level of malarial risk and the recommended prophylaxis regimens
- Assessment record to record travel advice given and details of any chemoprophylaxis supplied to the customer
The free resource will be distributed to the membership during January 2012 but to order an advance copy now, Numark members should contact the member services department on 0800 783 5709 or log on to NumarkNet to register for a copy and subsequent updates.
