People over the age of 55 are generally more active than younger sections of the population, according to a GlaxoSmithKline survey. The study from the drugs giant reveals that the older age group benefits from 28 minutes more physical activity a week than 18 to 25-year-olds. According to the study, however, 29% of those over 55 said long-term health conditions were the second most limiting factor for doing more physical activity after the British weather. GSK, Official Laboratory Services Provider for London 2012, intends to help more people over 55 with long-term health conditions lead an active lifestyle with the launch of its national Your Personal Best campaign. There are 7.78 million people over 55 with long-term health conditions in the UK. “Encouraging the inactive to be more active, particularly those with long term health conditions, is an ongoing challenge for those working in general practice,” said Dr Hamzah Baig, medical director at GSK. “Your Personal Best aims to help patients to set personal and realistic activity goals to achieve their personal best by engaging in a range of lifestyle activities from gardening to DIY or walking the dog.” Information about the Your Personal Best campaign is available at www.yourpersonalbestcampaign.co.uk
