Teva UK launch 2011/12 student bursary

Teva UK has opened up its student bursary scheme for the fourth consecutive year. It was launched in 2008 as part of plans to extend its support of pharmacy in the UK. The bursaries are available to students who want to gain a degree-level qualification in pharmacy or similar but may suffer hardship without additional financial support. Last year, bursaries were awarded to four students currently studying for a pharmacy degree at university, who each receive a payment of £500 for up to three years of study, providing they continue their studies. Teva says that it is now more important than ever to offer this kind of help. “We hope our bursary scheme will make an important contribution to the lives of under-privileged students in the UK, particularly at a time when financial considerations are becoming a prime concern for individuals wishing to take a degree course,” Teva UK's HR director Lynda Wilebore said. “As the UK’s leading generic pharmaceuticals company, we’re totally committed to pharmacy in the UK. This means we’re not only interested in supporting the pharmacists of today, but also in ensuring the pharmacists of tomorrow get the best possible start.” “A lot of students coming from my background aren't very motivated and don't believe they can achieve things in life or reach their ambitions because they feel deprived, both economically and culturally. Thanks to Teva I’ve been able to achieve my ambition,” said Layequr Rahman, who was awarded a 2011 bursary. The student bursary scheme is open to any home UK student who is either already attending, or who has been offered a place on, any full-time UK-based undergraduate course approved by a school of pharmacy or similar. The closing date for applications is September 30 2011. For further information visit www.tevauk.com/careers/bursary
