Teva UK supports future of pharmacy with student bursary scheme
Student Layequr Rahman praised Teva UK's bursary scheme
Teva UK, one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country, is helping pharmacy students struggling to meet tuition fees by awarding them with bursaries.
The Student Bursary Scheme is in its third year and is designed to support the future of pharmacy. Teva want to assist students who are aiming for a degree level qualification in pharmacy or similar, but who may be suffering hardship without additional financial support.
“As the UK’s leading generic pharmaceuticals company, we’re totally committed to pharmacy in the UK,” said the company’s HR director, Lynda Wilebore. “This means we’re not only interested in supporting the pharmacists of today, but also in ensuring the pharmacists of tomorrow get the best possible start.
“We hope our bursary scheme will make an important contribution to the lives of under-privileged students in the UK, particularly at a time when financial considerations are becoming a prime concern for individuals wishing to take a degree course.”
One of the students who has received financial help from the bursary, Layequr Rahman, a 20-year old from Bradford who is in the second year of his degree course at the University of Bradford, praised the scheme.
“A lot of students coming from my background aren't very motivated and don't believe they can achieve things in life or reach their ambitions because they feel deprived, both economically and culturally,” he said. “Thanks to Teva I’ve been able to achieve my ambition.”
The Student Bursary Scheme is open to any home UK student who is either already attending, or who has been offered a place on, any full-time UK-based undergraduate course approved by a school of pharmacy or similar.
