Ulcer drugs 50% more likely to cause hip fractures in smoking women
Women who smoke and take particular ulcer drugs are more likely to suffer from hip fractures later in life, according to the British Medical Journal.
The study took in 80,000 nurses in the U.S between the ages of 30 and 55 and they were examined to see how many developed fractures after the menopause.
The research revealed that those who smoked and took proton pump inhibitors were 50% more likely to suffer a hip fracture compared with those not taking the treatment.
