Haloperidol 500 micrograms capsules, manufactured by Teva, is out of stock for the foreseeable future

The Department of Health and Social Care has announced a Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) for Haloperidol (Serenace) 500 microgram capsules.

The SSP for the capsules will be effective in England for three months from Monday, December 23, 2019, until March 23, 2020.

The Haloperidol 500 micrograms capsules are now in short supply.

The protocol will allow pharmacists to supply alternative strengths or pharmaceutical forms of the medication without having to consult a patient’s prescriber, with immediate effect.

A detailed guidance on the SSP, with Q&A, is available on the NHS Business Service Authority (NHSBSA) website.
