The active ingredient in Nasonex is now available in pharmacies for sale without a prescription. Bayer has launched its over-the-counter (OTC) version of mometasone furoate, know as Clarinaze Allergy Control 0.05% Nasal Spray.
It offers effective relief for adults suffering from the most common symptoms of allergies including hay fever.
Mometasone furoate, which has been available as a prescription medicine for more than 17 years, is a familiar product to UK pharmacists. The reclassification from a prescription-only medicine to pharmacy medicines allows pharmacists to provide effective and trusted treatment directly to patients.
“As a pharmacist, I see many people who are struggling to cope with hay fever symptoms and we are always looking for ways that we can help relieve unnecessary suffering,” said Ravisher Mondair, a pharmacist in Sandhurst.
“An OTC mometasone furoate nasal spray will be an important addition to the treatments we can recommend and may help keep people out of GP surgeries this summer.”
Clarinaze Allergy Control 0.5% Nasal Spray is taken once daily. It can be used throughout the hay fever season and in combination with anti-histamines if required.
The Nasal Spray is available in 18g pump for an RRP of £13.99.
