The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced the withdrawal of the Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) for fluoxetine 10mg capsules from 11.55 pm today.

The department on Thursday confirmed that the supplies of the drug are “now available to meet normal demand.”

Any prescriptions for fluoxetine 10mg capsules from tomorrow must be dispensed in the usual way as the SSP will no longer be valid for use.

However, the SSPs for fluoxetine 30mg and 40 mg capsules remain in place and are currently due to expire on October 31, 2019.

Additional guidance on SSPs is available on the NHS Business Service Authority (NHSBSA) website.
