The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed Karen Baxter as the new Managing Director of the Pharmaceutical Press (PhP).

She will be the first pharmacist to lead the entire publishing function of the Society.

Baxter previously served as the director of content strategy for PhP. She led many important projects, focusing on customer needs to deliver content in new ways. According to an RPS statement, she brings a rich combination of skills to the role. Her appointment starts with immediate effect after an eight-month period as Interim-MD.

Chief Executive of RPS, Paul Bennett, welcomed Baxter to the new role and said that she would now take up a permanent position on the RPS executive team.

“I’m confident that under Karen’s leadership, PhP will continue to lead the way in medicines information and help RPS achieve our vision of becoming the world leader in the safe and effective use of medicines,” he said.

“When I started my career as a pharmacist, I didn’t ever imagine I’d lead the publishing arm of RPS that delivers titles such as the BNF, Martindale and Stockley, which were so fundamental to my practice. I am excited to take on the role of MD of Pharmaceutical Press and look forward to ensuring a strong future for these titles and for my professional body,” said Baxter.
