McKesson UK, the parent company of LloydsPharmacy, has appointed Kevin Birch as its new chief retail officer.
Birch takes over from Nigel Swift, who is leaving the business later this year after almost 20 years’ service.
He would be part of the company’s UK executive leadership team, responsible for all UK retail operations, including LloydsPharmacy.
“I’m delighted to welcome Kevin to our McKesson family. He joins at a time when the pharmacy industry faces a lot of change and that gives us an exciting opportunity to do things differently,” said McKesson CEO, Toby Anderson.
“Our retail business has faced many challenges recently which means we’ve had to adapt and refocus, but we know from speaking to our customers that they still value the face-to-face interactions they can have with our pharmacy teams.”
Birch’s previous experience includes working for Boots as the retail pharmacy operations director, leading over 65,000 employees across 2,500 stores.
“This is a really interesting challenge to be a part of and I’m excited to get started. The vision that McKesson has for the future of community pharmacy is perfectly aligned with my own. We have an opportunity to create a truly compelling omnichannel offering for our customers and patients, with retail pharmacy at the heart of it,” Birch commented.
