The Medicines and Healthcare products Agency (MHRA) on Thursday issued a class 2 pharmacy level medicines recall for two batches of Paracetamol 500mg tablets made by M&A Pharmachem Ltd. It is to be actioned within 48 hours.

The company-led recall is taking place due to a small number of pots from each batch have been found to contain discoloured tablets due to fungal contamination.

The fungi have been identified as Penicillium citrinium and Penicillium brevicompactum.

Community pharmacy teams are asked to stop supplying tablets with batch numbers 0110 and 0174 immediately. They are also suggested to quarantine all remaining stock and return it to the suppliers using their approved process.
