SecureMed, the UK Medicines Verification Organisation which runs the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD), is updating the wording of 11 alert messages and one related system message.

The changes in both “Description” and “Short Description” intent to make them more understandable to system users and it will be made effective on March 17, 2019.

The messages are produced by the hub in circumstances that the data on the pack of medicine gives cause for concern for its authenticity

Following the change, the pharmacy teams may start to see the amended wording appearing while using the system. However, it will not alter the way the FMD system functions.

UK FMD Working Group for Community Pharmacy has updated the interim guidance to reflect the revised FMD alert wordings.
