NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) has confirmed that there are currently no plans to ask community pharmacy to routinely open on the upcoming Good Friday and Easter Monday bank holidays.

However, according to an update from the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) this is subject to the changing demands of the pandemic which would be under constant review.

NHSE&I said regional teams are working with local pharmaceutical committees and pharmacy contractors to ensure sufficient cover arrangements are in place to meet expected demands for services over Easter. It expressed gratitude to pharmacy teams that have agreed to work during the bank holiday weekend.

NHSE&I also indicated that Covid-19 vaccination services remain the exception, providing a 7-day service where necessary, including bank holidays.

Further communications on the arrangements for these sites would follow, said the PSNC.
