HubRx has launched a new benefits calculator that shows the average independent community pharmacy can create £52k more profit per annum through hub and spoke dispensing.

The company aims to change the existing business model by freeing up time for pharmacy teams so pharmacists and technicians can focus on providing more clinical services to patients.

The calculator also takes account of improved purchasing margins through HubRx’s ability to make high-volume purchases not currently available to independents and small chain community pharmacies.

Additionally, a further benefit is the estimated £30k one-off capital release from stock that independents will no longer need to hold which could be used to enhance the pharmacy to support clinical services.

HubRx has calculated that an independent pharmacy dispensing 7,500 items per month and optimising hub and spoke for 70 per cent of those items could make an extra £52k a year.

CEO of HubRx, Daniel Lee, said: “This calculator will enable community pharmacists to recognise the potential that hub and spoke offers in expanding their service offering. Our purpose-built facility will give them time-saving automated dispensing that’s previously only been available to larger pharmacy chains.

“We know the decision whether to access hub and spoke is a complex one. With this calculator we want to show the benefits hub and spoke can have in terms of freeing up skilled time to offer more professionally and financially rewarding clinical services especially with the backdrop of flat funding and an expansion of NMS and cardiovascular testing.”

The benefits calculator can be tailored to individual size and need so pharmacists can see the potential of freeing up capacity through hub and spoke.
