Mark Koziol, chairman of the Pharmacists’ Defence Association, has been elected secretary general of the Employed Community Pharmacists of the European Union (EPhEU).

He was confirmed as the next chief of the federation which unites community pharmacist trade unions across Europe at its 10th annual congress which was held in hybrid form with some delegates meeting in person in Vienna, while others, including the UK delegation, joining virtually.

Koziol, who was already a member of the EPhEU executive committee, will undertake his new role for the next three years whilst remaining chairman of the PDA. Giving reaction, he said: “It is a great honour that colleagues from the other European countries have chosen the representative from the UK as their secretary general.”

Founded in 2012, EPhEU connects representative organisations across Europe and represents professional, strategic, legal, socio-political, and cultural interests of employed pharmacists in Europe. It is also an observer member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation.

The association includes member organisations from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland and the UK.
