The Pandemic Delivery Service, which ensured home delivery of prescribed medicines and appliances to all self-isolating people, would end next month as part of rollback of the Covid-19 domestic restrictions, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee said.

This means no medicine deliveries will be made as part of the Pandemic Delivery Service after March 5, 2022. The service was part of the practical support to assist citizens to self-isolate.

This update follows prime minister Boris Johnson’s announcement made on Monday (February 21) about ending the legal requirement to self-isolate after a positive Covid test in England from Thursday (February 24).

With the end of this service, the NHS Test and Trace will no longer issue any 8-digit NHS Test and Trace Account IDs, however, pharmacy contractors can still make prescription deliveries to eligible patients who have the number issued on or before February 23, 2022.

The negotiator further said that contractors can submit claims for Advanced service (for deliveries) by April 5, 2022 to be remunerated for any deliveries made on or before March 5, 2022.

Meanwhile, the payment for the essential service element of the Pandemic Delivery Service will continue until March 31, 2022.
