How To Enjoy Smoothies While Being On A Keto Diet

The Keto diet is one of the most popular diets in the world at the moment and for good reason. This low carb high in good fats diet helps the body burn stored fat through a process called “ketosis”, hence the name. The key to success is sticking with the diet because when you slip up, your body slips out of the ketosis state you’ve put it in. When it comes to sweet goodies this can be a little bit difficult. However, it doesn’t have to be! Here are 6 smoothie combinations for you to try playing around with that will feel like you’re cheating on your diet but are perfectly keto-friendly.

1. Coconut Chocolate Delight

Coconut is one of the best ingredients for a keto smoothie. It has those good fats your body needs in order for it to stay in ketosis. It tastes pretty good, but what tastes better than coconut? That’s right – chocolate. Chocolate and coconut are a smoothie match made in heaven and can be used to make a Keto smoothie bowl recipe that acts as an alternative to chocolate pudding. The coconut gives the mixture a really smooth and creamy consistency and using cocoa powder is a really healthy way to get your chocolate fix for the day. If you want to be extra healthy, you can substitute the cocoa powder with a chocolate protein powder.

2. Nut Butters

When choosing to go on a keto diet, not all of the joy and goodness of food is forbidden like other diets. A keto diet allows peanut butter because it’s full of those healthy fats you need to be getting into your diet. Almond and cashew nut butter are also a green light for a keto smoothie. They also make for a super creamy and delicious smoothie consistency. You can add a splash of almond milk to keep things at a drinkable consistency.

3. Mint Choc-Chip

Sadly, mint choc-chip ice cream isn’t keto, but you can make a yummy alternative. You can create a delicious alternative with Greek yogurt, coconut milk, a handful of baby spinach leaves, a dash of vanilla extra as well as a dash of peppermint extract. You can spruce it up with a scoop of protein powder or collagen powder. All of these ingredients keep this treat keto, but absolutely delicious.

4. Blackberry Cheesecake

Because the keto diet allows good fats, and lots of them, it has a bit of a reputation for being a diet that allows tons of creamy, and delicious desserts. A blackberry cheesecake smoothie is one of these delicious dessert-like smoothies that give it this reputation. Almond milk, some heavy cream, cream cheese, frozen blackberries, and a dash of maple syrup for sweetness are all you need. This is a great way to enjoy what tastes exactly like a blackberry cheesecake without those carbs and unwanted calories.

5. Vanilla Latte Ice Cream

Ice cream is something almost everyone on a diet misses. But, it doesn’t have to be something of the past. This yummy smoothie alternative to a vanilla ice cream latte is decadent, delicious, and incredibly healthy. You can enjoy this delicious smoothie with caffeine or without, but we recommend that you use decaf coffee rather than omit coffee altogether. Freeze some coffee, so that you can throw them into the blender once frozen. Throw in some heavy cream, a splash of milk of your choice, and a few chia seeds for thickness and you have yourself a delicious vanilla latte ice cream smoothie.

6. Avo-Berry

Avocado is a superfood and an absolute “yes” for anyone on a keto diet. But things like fruit tend to fall by the wayside, because of the high carb content. Like blackberries, strawberries are low in carbs and are therefore perfectly acceptable for anyone on a keto diet. They are high in antioxidants, vitamin C, and potassium. Throw a handful of strawberries and a bit of avocado with some ice and milk of your choice to create this delicious berry smoothie.

You might have noticed that we did not include any sweeteners or a lot of fruit in these suggestions. This is because high-carb fruits as well as sweeteners do not fall into the list of allowable things for maintaining a keto diet. When looking for more in-depth smoothie recipes that are allowable on a keto diet, look for recipes that are high in fat like avocado, nut butter, coconut milk (or cream), and contain full-fat dairy. These things are a good indication that you are on the right track to maintaining your diet.
