It aims to empower pharmacy professionals with the knowledge and tools to create a healthy workplace

Pharmacist Support, a charity centred on bolstering pharmacist well-being, has launched a new course to help pharmacy professionals to foster a positive and supportive workplace culture.

The ‘Embracing a Workplace Wellbeing Culture’ course is specially designed for pharmacy managers and leaders, and aims to address the unique challenges faced by them in cultivating a healthy environment for their teams.

During the course, they will be empowered with practical strategies that can be implemented immediately, which can contribute to improved team wellbeing and performance.

Workforce Wellbeing surveys conducted by the charity along with the RPS have shown that the pressures on the pharmacy workforce continue to negatively impact on mental health and wellbeing, Pharmacist Support Chief Executive, Danielle Hunt said.

“We have seen consistently very high levels of burnout with around 50 per cent of respondents citing a lack of work-life balance, lack of protected learning time and lack of colleague or senior support as factors which have negatively impacted their mental health and wellbeing.”

“Research by Mind has found that 56 per cent of employers would like to do more to improve staff wellbeing, but they don’t feel they have the right training or guidance,” she added.

Melissa Cochrane, Wellbeing Development Manager at Pharmacist Support, pointed out that effective leadership is not just about managing operations, but it’s also about nurturing the wellbeing of your team.

“A supportive line manager can make a huge difference in terms of wellbeing in the workplace.

“However, the reality is that many managers are promoted because of their job-based skills but have not been trained in mental health and wellbeing and may not have the interpersonal skills to manage these issues sensitively,” she said.

According to Cochrane, the six-module course has been carefully crafted to address industry-specific challenges and provide research based actionable solutions.

Interested individuals can register for the course from 15 January (Monday), and there’s a special introductory offer – participants who register before 29 February, 2024 will be allowed to enrol at the discounted rate of £180.
