Allied Pharmacies, which recently took over 60 Jhoots Pharmacy branches, has said it will clear all the salary arrears of the troubled pharmacy chain's employees, C+D reports.

Allied is reportedly awaiting details regarding the affected Jhoots staff from the administrators.

While taking over the Jhoots Pharmacy branches two weeks ago, Allied Pharmacies had said the majority of them were closed and their priority would be to make them operational.

The company had also assured the employees that it would take steps to clear their salary arrears.

However, it had directed the Locum Pharmacist contractors to contact the Jhoots administrators for their dues.

The Pharmacists' Defence Association had earlier stated that locum pharmacists at Jhoots are awaiting £670,000 in unpaid fees.

While this takeover move had come as a relief for some employees and patients, the fate of those closed Jhoots outlets that have not been taken over by Allied Pharmacies remains uncertain.

During the Prime Minister's Question time last week, prime minister Sir Keir Starmer said the government is looking to resolve the Jhoots Pharmacy situation "as quickly as possible".

The question was posed by West Dorset MP Edward Morello, who had also sought emergency legislation to prevent future scandals and give the government the power to pay unpaid staff in the health care sector.

All the 151 Jhoots branches are owned, at least in part, by either Sarbjit or Manjit Jhooty.

The financial mismanagement only relates to the pharmacies under the ownership and operation of Sarbjit Jhooty, who runs 129 outlets.

Manjit Jhooty, Director of Jhoots Healthcare Ltd and Pasab Ltd, owns and operates 21 pharmacies.

In a related development, care minister Stephen Kinnock had confirmed that the Jhoots Pharmacy's Isle of Wight was delisted on October 29 and added that integrated care boards are working to remove “over 20 more stores” from the pharmaceutical list.

The minister said the 'almost 1,300' remedial and breach notices have been issued to Jhoots pharmacies.
