Pharmacies are still being subjected to upsetting cases of aggressive and violent behavior despite the vast majority of the public have a clear picture on the increased workload on the health workers, RPS said on Tuesday (21).

RPS added that it is working with national police leads on how pharmacies can work together to help to support and protect pharmacy staff working on the frontline.

The Metropolitan police has issued a specific guidance for community pharmacies offering advice on security of premises, and safety and well-being of staff and customers during the pandemic.

In an interaction with Sky News, RPS Director of Pharmacy Robbie Turner spoke about how pharmacists and pharmacy teams are dealing with the pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic, when it comes to their own safety.

He emphasised the concern that “it is too difficult” to get adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to keep the staff safe from the virus, as supply remains stretched across healthcare.

RPS guidelines recommend the use of face-masks when social distancing measures – keeping at least two metres apart – are not practical in pharmacies.

RPS director further noted that pharmacists have and are continuing to work incredibly hard to meet the “massive increase” in demand for prescriptions and other medical advice.
