Enalapril 5mg tablets will remain out of stock until the end of April 2021, the Department of Health and Social Care (DH) said in a medicine supply notification on Friday (March 19).
Enalapril 10mg tablets will remain available and can support any uplift in demand, whereas current stock of Enalapril 2.5mg tablets cannot support any spike in demand, the DH added.
Unlicensed enalapril oral solution is available and unlicensed imports of enalapril 5mg tablets can also be sourced to meet any uplift in demand for the drug.
Alium Medical, Mawdsley’s Unlicensed, and Target Healthcare have confirmed that they can source unlicensed enalapril 5mg tablets.
Unlicensed enalapril 5mg/5ml oral suspension/solution is available from most specials manufacturers.
If there is currently no listing on dm+d for the imported product for prescribers to select using their prescribing systems an EPS prescription for unlicensed Enalapril tablets/suspension cannot be issued.
Where a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, an FP10 paper prescription should be issued as ‘Enalapril tablets or suspension (Special Order)‘ and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special.
