Pharmacy owners using the National Booking Service (NBS) to offer appointments for adult flu and COVID-19 vaccinations can now post appointments within the system.

Patients will be able to use NBS to book appointments from September 1, for vaccination from October 1.

The use of NBS for flu vaccinations is voluntary.

The functionality within NHS Profile Manager, which was added last year to allow pharmacies to add a link to their own flu vaccination booking system within their NHS website profile, remains in place.

Pharmacy owners who have not yet registered for NBS and are keen to do so should complete the NBS registration flu form by September 1.

Community pharmacies in England will also launch one-season trial of a new flu vaccination service for children aged 2-3 years from October.

The children will be vaccinated with live attenuated influenza vaccine nasal spray suspension (LAIV), which will be supplied to pharmacies from centrally procured stock.
