The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the Department of Health in Northern Ireland would collaborate to support innovation, enhance patient safety and ensure that Northern Ireland residents benefit from world-class regulation.

The new partnership is based on the first MHRA Board seminar that took place in Belfast in November 2025.


The new collaboration focuses on expanding the use and visibility of the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme across Northern Ireland, to ensure the quality of medicines and medical devices.

Improving research is another key area of focus that aims to discover evidence-based innovation, enhanced therapies and better health outcomes.

Establish the presence of MHRA in Northern Ireland and provide a clear point of contact for local partners and supporting closer partnerships and engagement with industry, academia and the health system.

The partnership aims to spur the growth of Northern Ireland’s life sciences sector with maximum safety assured for the patients.
