Large quantities of Mounjaro weight loss drugs were recently stolen from a pharmacy in Scotland.

Police said the incident occurred last week at a pharmacy in East Craigs, Edinburgh, and the burglars made off with the weight loss drug, whose price had been recently increased sharply.

Police responded to the incident following an alert from the staff.

The pharmacy has announced a reward for anyone providing any information about the theft.

The police are examining the CCTV footage, and the store authorities have appealed to nearby residents to share any dashcam or doorbell footage, if available, that may assist in the police investigation.

Mounjaro is the brand name of the drug Tirzepatide, which was originally intended to treat type 2 diabetes but has now gained popularity as a weight loss drug.

Tirzepatide mimics gut hormones to facilitate insulin production, reduce blood sugar, slow stomach emptying, and stifle appetites.

On top of making you feel fuller for longer, Mounjaro also helps to control blood sugar levels and decreases the amount of sugar produced by your liver, meaning less production of fat.

The drug is available through the NHS, but it is restricted to just 200,000 people, who had a BMI of 40 or more and four out of five of the following conditions: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and vascular disease, high cholesterol, and obstructive sleep apnoea.

It is estimated that in the UK, thousands of people buy them privately, and it is in great demand.

Following pressure from US president Donald Trump to lower medication prices for Americans, Mounjaro maker Eli Lilly had sharply increased its price in the UK.

This has given rise to thefts in pharmacies and the proliferation of spurious drugs in the market.

In another incident, a pharmacy worker at Well Pharmacy in Harrogate was sentenced in September for stealing 40 boxes of Mounjaro.
