A cancer survivor has successfully climbed Mount Everest in aid of a charity raising awareness of the disease.
Yasmin Haque, 56, joined 31 other charity supporters in November to climb the mountain over the course of 12 days. She has raised £8,425 for charity Prevent Breast Cancer.
Haque, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, said she thought it was “particularly important” for the Asian community to be more aware of breast cancer.
“There are still so many cultural taboos around it,” she said.
Describing the trek as one of the “toughest things she has ever done”, Haque said it was a “life-changing experience” and expressed delight at being able to raise money for the charity.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with one in nine women and one in 1,000 men developing the disease in their lifetime.
