British Skin Foundation (BSF) has joined hands with ITN Productions to launch a news-style programme to raise awareness and understanding about types of skin disorders.
The programme, ‘More than Skin Deep’, will discuss the psychological impact of skin ailments on the people and the importance of research into the advancements of new treatments and cures.
About 60 per cent of Britons suffer from skin troubles at some point in their lives, which ranges from acne, dermatitis to rosacea and more.
Matthew Patey, CEO of BSF said, “At the British Skin Foundation, we know that skin diseases can affect mental health, relationships and the ability to live a normal life. The programme anchored by ITN Productions' presenter and reporter Mary-Ann Ochota features key sector interviews, independent news items and a series of inspirational sponsored profiles, filmed in London studio and remotely.
In a series of episodes, the program shows Matthew Patey, CEO of BSF, discussing the science behind skin treatments and the vital role of research.
A film led by ITN Productions reporter Robin Ross, Amyrt Pharma highlights the firm’s work in skin research, especially on epidermolysis bullosa, a gene mutation that makes skin extremely fragile.
The programme also features consultant dermatologist, Dr Christos Tziotzios, who talks about the BSF’s role in supporting research into the new hair epidemic frontal fibrosing alopecia that affects post-menopausal women.
In one of the episodes, bio-pharmaceutical company, AbbVie talk to Julie MacDonald about their commitment to partner with the NHS to achieve more sustainable healthcare system.
In the BSF news feature, clinical psychologist Professor Andrew Thompson discusses the need for more services to support the mental health side of skin problems.

'More than Skin Deep' will launch on Tuesday July 6 at the British Association of Dermatologists' 101st annual meeting and will be available to view on demand on BSF’s website, thereafter.
