The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a medicine supply notification for Fluticasone (Flixotide) 0.5mg/2ml and 2mg/2ml nebules.

Flixotide 0.5mg/2ml nebules will be out of stock from late June, whereas Flixotide 2mg/2ml nebules are expected to face supply shortages from August, the notification has said.

Resupplies of both strengths are expected from November.

“Unlicensed imports have been sourced, and lead times will vary. There is currently no listing on dm+d for the imported product for prescribers to select using their prescribing systems so an EPS prescription for unlicensed fluticasone (strength) nebules cannot be issued,” the DHSC added.

If a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, an FP10 paper prescription should be issued as ‘Fluticasone (strength) nebules (special order)‘ and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special.
