A Stockport-pharmacist is among the initial nine frontline NHS staff members who are selected as the ‘Faces of the NHS App’.

The chosen ones are selected by a panel of senior clinical leader from nearly 700 applicants. They will be expected to promote the app to patients.

Sarah Thompson, who works as a clinical pharmacist and digital lead in a Stockport hospital, is expecting her first child and she finds the NHS App making it easy for her to manage her pregnancy.

“I recently needed to know my NHS number so it’s been useful to use the NHS App to access my record and manage my appointments rather than spending ages on the phone,” Thompson said.

These nine NHS staff members will also be featured in posters, videos, social media posts and other content for promoting the NHS App.

Dr Nikki Kanani, medical director for primary care at NHS England and NHS Improvement, said: “It’s great to see our frontline staff adopting the NHS App to manage their own health and wellbeing too, alongside sharing their experience with their patients and the public and getting more people to use the app.”

NHS App already has more than 230,000 users and it provides a simple and secure way for people to access a range of NHS services through smartphones or tablets.

“The App is one of many online tools providing patients with a choice of how they wish to access NHS services digitally, allowing people simply, safely and securely to do things like order repeat prescriptions, manage appointments, check symptoms and view their GP medical record,” said Tara Donnelly, NHSX Chief Digital Officer.
