NHS has crossed half a million dementia diagnosis this year as it looks to carry out timely care and avoid crisis situations.

Compared to last year’s 490,163 diagnosis, 506,549 people were diagnosed this time during the same period.

“A third of people living with dementia in England are undiagnosed,” stated Kieran Winterburn, head of national influencing at Alzheimer’s Society.

Along with the rapid diagnosis, NHS has updated its dementia care with the support of technology.

MinderCare, monitoring service launched by the Imperial College Healthcare Trust makes the homes patient-friendly, meeting their change in health needs and reduce unwanted hospital admissions.

The trust aims to take in 100 patients to check the feasibility of the service by September 2025, for the patients in north-west London.

The device is funded by a not-for-profit medical research charity, LifeArc.

The sensors that can be attached to mattresses, home appliances, doorways, etc. helps to ensure there are no risks or signs of infections.

The innovation supports patients, as well as their families.

“MinderCare is a great example of the NHS trialling cutting-edge technology to help more people to live safely in their own homes,” said Jeremy Isaacs, national clinical director of dementia, NHS England.
