Key Summary

  • New DMS claim system started July 6th
  • Old claims allowed for three months
  • Keep DMS proof for three years

Community Pharmacy England (CPE) announced their latest organised Discharge Medicines Service (DMS) went live yesterday.

The new process is more streamlined compared to the longer previous one that was concluded on July 1 this year.

Pharmacists are expected to use it for DMS activity data that started on or before 30 June 2025 but incomplete.

Undeclared data submitted via the old system could be viewed but not edited post retirement at 11.59 pm only July 5, 2025. However, completed unclaimed data should have been uploaded before the retirement as well, for it to be viewed.

Users can still submit and view claims in the old system until three months as outlined in the Drug Tariff after 6 July, without the need to re-enter data.

On the other hand, they can begin the new MYS shortened journey from July 6 after completing all the levels and then by entering required data in it.

Fully or partially completed DMS provision are welcome in the process.

However, partially completed claim could only be made in specific scenarios.

Partially completed claims are acceptable only when the patient is uncontactable or cancels the consent, or moves community pharmacy post Stage 1 completion.

Also, if a temporary pharmacy closure delays service past 30 June 2025, enter all data in the new system after 6 July.

A Post-Payment Verification (PPV) will be exercised on DMS claims through both systems, even with few more details to be finalised.

Therefore, pharmacy owners must keep proof of meeting service rules for three years and have it ready for a PPV review if selected.
