  • Flu jabs continue and are strongly encouraged to stay protected

The NHS has exhorted the public to avail health services despite the ongoing doctors’ strike.

The strike by resident doctors began on Wednesday and will end on Monday at 7 am.

The NHS have been working tirelessly to cover for the striking doctors, who make up nearly 50 percent of all the doctors.

They also have to contend with a surge in flu cases, 3,140 cases last week, the highest spike this year.

This also adds immense pressure on the NHS.

However, the NHS has decided to focus on the timely and effective delivery of routine care and scheduled operations for patients’ well-being.

It still continues the flu jabs in various community pop-up clinics to fight the surge.

Public is informed to complete their scheduled appointment, unless it is rescheduled.

It also urges them to reach out to 999, or do a direct visit to A&E, in case of health emergencies.

On the other hand, they can contact 111 online for other non-urgent but serious health needs.

“Despite this being an extremely difficult time for the NHS to be facing industrial action, staff are yet again working tirelessly to keep care going, and the public should be reassured that services remain up and running this weekend,” commented Professor Meghana Pandit, NHS England National Medical Director.

She added, “I want to thank all the staff who are going over and above to cover for those who are striking and ensure that patients get the care they need.”

“And vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself from getting sick with flu, so if you’re eligible, please come forward for a jab, it’s not too late,” she reminded.
