The East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) community were last month celebrated for their resilience, heritage, and contributions to pharmacy.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) recognised September as East and Southeast Asian Heritage month.


The RPS hosted “Reframing Resilience”, an online event where popular ESEA pharmacy professionals spoke on culture, heritage and identity in healthcare career.

Eminent pharmacy leaders like Yuen Toh shared their stories via blogs as well.

Toh discussed about her Malaysian-Chinese heritage’s influence in her pharmacy journey.

She emphasised on the importance of honouring one’s culture along with topics like inclusive leadership and mentoring the next generation.

RPS celebrated the ESEA heritage month in collaboration with organisations such as the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK, British Pharmaceutical Students' Association (BPSA), Female Pharmacy Leaders Network, Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists Pharmacy Technicians of Colour, UK Black Pharmacist Association and Pharmacy Business Magazine.

Last year, the RPS gained public attention with the usage of #ESEAHM and #RPSIandD via social media platforms.

Their first Action in Belonging, Culture and Diversity (ABCD) meeting also took place last year appreciating the remarkable contributions of pharmacy professionals like Brendon Jiang, RPS England Pharmacy Board Vice Chair and Helen Kilminster, Primary Care Pharmacy Association National Vice President.

It is a forum for popular pharmacy professionals to discuss and champion inclusion, diversity and belongingness in the workplace.

They shared their experiences and reflections for the participants as well, leaving an unforgettable impact on many.
