Key Summary
- RPS is consulting on a new pharmacogenomics support resource for all prescribers.
- It will guide personalised prescribing and may update existing prescriber competencies.
- Feedback is sought from all prescribers and organisations using or familiar with genomics.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) is inviting views from a wide range of professionals to formulate a pharmacogenomic resource for all prescribers.
Commissioned by the Pharmacogenomic Network of Excellence, the resource aims to help prescribers apply the pharmacogenomic knowledge within the existing prescribing competencies and practice.
The resource will have context, case studies, signpost to relevant tools as well as educational material that supports personalised prescribing.
The consultation will be open till 9 January, 2026.
It will also explore if there is a need for new pharmacogenomics-specific competencies or if changes should be suggested to the current Competency Framework for all Prescribers.
The consultation aims to gather feedback from prescribers already using pharmacogenomics, those interested in using it, and organisations employing or representing prescribers.
They also focus on individuals and organisations familiar with the Competency Framework for all Prescribers.
“Pharmacogenomics has the potential to improve patient outcomes by ensuring that prescribing is better targeted, more personalised and more effective,” said Dr Sophie Harding, consultant pharmacist for Genomics and Pharmacogenomics and lead author.
“We want to develop a resource that is practical, high-quality and useful for every prescriber, regardless of setting, profession or level of experience.”
