The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) is inviting applications for skilled trustees to join the first Board of the future Royal College of Pharmacy.

The applications are open from 4 February to 8 March, and the trustees will be appointed for an initial term of up to three years, with the option to renew for two further terms.

The new college will be a registered charity, and the Trustee Board will ensure the college is operated in accordance with its Royal Charter obligations and charity law.

The inaugural Trustee Board, comprising up to three trustees, will be chaired by Joe Irvin, who was appointed in November 2025.

The time commitment required is up to one day a month, and the trustees will work alongside the chair and elected members to steer the strategic direction, good governance and finances of the college.

They will ensure that the board's work benefits the public by supporting professionals to achieve excellence in patient care.

A majority of the Trustee Board will be registered (or formerly registered) pharmacists, drawn from the Senate, the governance body of the college that will advise the Board of Trustees on professional matters.

RPS is seeking applications from individuals with a background in governance, charity finance and leadership or organisational oversight.

RPS president professor Claire Anderson said, “These trustee roles offer a unique opportunity to help shape the future Royal College of Pharmacy at a time of transformation for both the organisation and the wider healthcare system.

“We’re looking for people who bring strategic insight, strong governance experience and a deep understanding of the charity sector to help guide the next chapter of our development as a future royal college.”
