The Pharmacy Review Steering Committee has agreed the terms of reference and the plan of action for the independent review into the PSNC and LPC representation and support for contractors on its first meeting on December 19, 2019.

Chaired by David Wright, Professor of Pharmacy Practice from the School of Pharmacy at the University of East Anglia, the review will look at the roles and structures underpinning the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) and Local Pharmaceutical Committees (LPC).

“This is the first-ever review of the PSNC and LPC infrastructure and therefore we are somewhat in unchartered waters. I am therefore delighted that the first PRSC meeting was incredibly positive, we have agreed a way forward for the review and a way of working together,” said Professor Wright.

The review aims to provide recommendations which will optimise PSNC and LPC contractor representation. It will also suggest methods to support and ensure that the national network structure is working as efficiently for contractors as it can and is fit for the future.

Separate focus groups will be held in Leeds, Leicester, London and Taunton with LPC and contractor representatives this month to develop national survey tools for distribution in February.

The review team includes Dr Michael Twigg and Dr Linda Birt, both from the University of East Anglia, and Dr Hannah Family of the University of Bristol.

The final report of the review is expected by April 2020.
