Alliance calcium syrup faces supply disruption

The Department of Health and Social Care (DH) has issued a medicine supply notification for Alliance Calcium Syrup.

The calcium gluconate 544mg/5ml calcium lactate 276mg/5ml oral solution will remain out of stock until mid-September 2021.

Patients in primary care should be referred back to secondary care centres for review and management during the supply disruption period, the DH said in an advice to healthcare professionals.

Any remaining supplies of Alliance Calcium Syrup should be reserved for neonates and patients in whom alternative options are not appropriate, DH said.

DH has also suggested that all other patients should be switched to an alternative calcium formulation and alternative treatment options can be found on the Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) website.

The DH has also extended a medicine supply notification issued for Diamorphine hydrochloride powder for reconstitution and injection 5mg and 10mg ampoules.

5mg Diamorphine hydrochloride powder for reconstitution and injection will remain out of stock until the first week of next month, whereas 10mg will now be out of stock from May 31 until late June 2021.

The health regulator has extended a medicine supply notification issued for Flixotide (fluticasone propionate) 100 microgram Accuhaler until June 28. Earlier, the product was expected to return community pharmacy shelves by May 31.

Fluoxetine 30mg capsules of Advanz are out of stock and the DH is expected to announce the resupply date soon.

Advanz is the sole supplier of fluoxetine 30mg capsules. Fluoxetine 10mg and 20mg capsules will remain available to meet the existing demand.
