Allied Pharmacies has announced the acquisition of 68 additional Jhoots pharmacies, in addition to the 61 acquired earlier this year.

With this acquisition, a total of 129 outlets have been added to the Allied Pharmacies network, thereby strengthening its presence across the country.

The company said that while the sector continues to face structural challenges, it was committed to "play a stabilising role by investing in sustainable models of care."

"By consolidating resources and expertise, Allied Pharmacies has ensured that it is well-positioned to deliver reliable, high-quality pharmaceutical services across the country."

Allied said it is focusing on bringing these ailing pharmacies back to full operational capacity as quickly as possible to safeguard patient care.

The company lauded the former Jhoots employees for their commitment and resilience amid a challenging time.

"We want to assure them that they will receive the same consideration and care as those supported during the earlier acquisition of pharmacies this year.”

There were around 151 Jhoots branches that were owned, at least in part, by either Sarbjit or Manjit Jhooty.

Of late, the pharmacies owned by Sarbjit Jhooty, who runs 129 outlets, have been plagued with financial mismanagement, leading to delays in staff salaries and abrupt closures.

This had inconvenienced many patients who were forced to approach other pharmacies for their essential medicines.

The issue was raised many times in Parliament, with many MPs highlighting the hardships faced by Jhoots employees and patients' woes following abrupt closures.

Meanwhile, Manjit Jhooty, who runs 21 outlets, had recently announced that he will be rebranding his store portfolio to JHL Pharmacy.

He said the actions of other pharmacy operators trading as Jhoots Pharmacy have caused "significant and irreparable damage to the brand name".
