Boots Online Doctor has launched the new oral weight loss pill Foundayo, manufactured by Eli Lilly, amid rising demand for tablet-based weight loss medication.

The introduction of the Wegovy tablet at Boots in July had attracted a new group of customers to its weight loss service.

Since its launch, more than two thirds (67%) of customers accessing weight loss medication through Boots have been new to the service, while almost half (47%) of new customers are now choosing the Wegovy tablet.

Boots has also seen an uplift in the proportion of male patients choosing the oral treatment compared with weight loss injections.

Now, with the launch of Foundayo, the pharmacy chain expects the user base for weight loss tablets to grow further.

Jamie Kerruish, Chief Healthcare Officer at Boots, said: “The introduction of the new oral Foundayo pill is another important development in a rapidly evolving weight-management landscape. Since launching the Wegovy tablet in July, we’ve seen strong interest in oral treatment, with many customers accessing weight loss medication through Boots for the first time.

“Medication is just one part of a successful weight management journey. Through our online and in-store offering, we want to give customers access to the information, tools and resources they need to make informed choices and build healthier, more sustainable habits.”

Dr David Gwynne, Medical Director at Boots Online Doctor, said: “Having another oral treatment option available gives customers and healthcare professionals greater choice when considering the most appropriate treatment approach. Weight management is not one-size-fits-all, and having clinically licensed options with different administration methods allows treatment decisions to be considered alongside an individual’s preferences, lifestyle and clinical needs.

“It’s important to remember that weight loss medication is not a quick fix. Whether taken as a tablet or injection, the best outcomes are achieved when treatment is combined with healthy lifestyle changes, patient education and ongoing clinical supervision. Medication can be a valuable tool, but it works best as part of a broader, long-term approach to weight management.”

Foundayo is a once-daily oral weight loss medication containing the active ingredient orforglipron, which works by mimicking the action of the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone. It helps regulate appetite, increase feelings of fullness and reduce hunger.

Unlike Wegovy, Foundayo does not have any fasting requirement and can be taken at any time of the day, and this provides customers with an additional choice.

The service starts from £79.20 (0.8 mg) for new eligible customers and £99 for existing customers.

The available dosage and prices as follows: 0.8 mg, 2.5mg (£119), 5.5mg (£149), 9mg (£169), 14.5mg (£189), and 17.2mg (£199).
