The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has named Dr Catherine Duggan for one of its highest honours - 2025 RPS Charter Award, for her contribution to the field of pharmacy.


She had earlier served in various senior roles at the RPS, including Director of Professional Development and Support and interim Country Director for England.

Dr Duggan pioneered the introduction of the RPS Faculty (2013) and RPS Foundation Programme (2014) as well.

Her past positions also include the chair of UKCPA and a member of the RPSGB Council.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this award and regard this as a huge recognition of work I have always been proud and privileged to do for my profession,” Duggan commented on her achievement.

“Receiving the RPS Charter Award during this year of transition for the RPS to a royal college represents such a culmination of shared endeavour and vision of so many of us in the recent decades,” she added.

Catherine, who has served as chief executive officer of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) since 2018, and has been guiding its 160 member organisations and allied institutions, representing 5.5 million pharmacy professionals across the globe.

She enhanced its partnerships with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNESCO, supported wider global participation and revenue generation, improved governance and supported FIP through the Covid-19 pandemic.

She is one of the powerful pharmacy leaders who promoted the roles of pharmacists in vaccination, self-care and patient facing services.

Dr Duggan has played a key role in increasing pharmacy-based vaccination since 2020.

“Her visionary leadership, dedication to advancing global practice and ability to bring people and professions together have had an enduring impact both in the UK and internationally.”

RPS will present the honour to Dr Duggan at the RPS AGM, which will take place on Tuesday (7) evening.
