Daily consumption of multivitamins without consulting a doctor or undergoing blood tests can be harmful, a pharmacist cum content warns.

Pharmacist Amir Bhogal from Pyramid Pharmacy explained in a TikTok video that multivitamins do not serve people’s tailored needs and he would never recommend them to his patients.

He said multivitamins usually “have too much of what you need or not enough of what you need.”

Bhogal recommends a blood test to find the deficiencies and consuming those particular nutrients instead of unnecessarily taking nutrients that are already present in the body.

He advised people to have a balanced diet to get all these nutrients and not rely on supplements, unless it is for children and pregnant women.

According to the NHS, vitamin A, B, C, D, E, K, calcium, iodine and iron are some of the most important nutrients people must ensure.

NHS clearly states each nutrient and its benefits in the website along with their appropriate dosage, which must be followed by GPs as well as people.

Bhogal also recommends that those taking supplements should closely following the directions for better outcomes.

He warns that an excess of some nutrients could be harmful.
