Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has appointed Elen Jones as their new Pharmacy Dean with her started her in new role in October.
Jones spent the previous 11 years at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) in a number of positions, including Policy & Practice Lead to Director for Wales, and currently as the Acting Director of Pharmacy.
She began her career as a branch manager at Well Pharmacy and has also spent a number of years lecturing at Cardiff University.
Jones is a proud and committed pharmacist who has contributed to pharmacy while promoting environmental sustainability with RPS over a decade.
Being a passionate pharmacist and teacher, she also introduced Welsh language training for pharmacy students to build their confidence in offering bilingual patient consultations.
“As I step into the role of Dean of Health Education and Improvement Wales in October. I do so at a pivotal time for pharmacy, with the advent of prescribing rights for newly qualified pharmacists and the expanding role of pharmacy technicians,” said Jones regarding her position at HEIW.
“My passion for education and training, shaped by years of lecturing at Cardiff University and ongoing collaboration with pharmacy schools, continues to drive me. I look forward to advancing pharmacy workforce, education and practice for the future,” she added.
Paul Bennett, chief executive at the RPS, paid tribute to Jones saying she would continue to play a part in the future of the organisaiton.
“Elen has grown immensely as a leader in her time with RPS and I look forward to watching her flourish still further in her new position and to her continued support as a Fellow of RPS in our journey towards establishing the future Royal College of Pharmacy,” he said
