Manjit Jhooty, one of operators trading under the brand name Jhoots Pharmacies, has announced that he will be rebranding his store portfolio to JHL Pharmacy.
In a statement, Manjit Jhooty, CEO & Director of JHL Pharmacy, said, “The actions of other pharmacy operators trading as Jhoots Pharmacy have caused significant and irreparable damage to the brand name.
Many Jhoots Pharmacy branches, not owned by Manjit Jhooty, had faced issues such as abrupt closures and non-payment of salaries to employees.
"Although our businesses have been independent of each other since 2019 my directors and I feel it is necessary to further distinguish our operations beyond the public statements that have been made to date.
“We will therefore be rebranding to JHL Pharmacy, with a new supporting strapline of ‘Just Helping Lives’."
Manjit said he is saddened to see the Jhoots Pharmacy brand name go from his pharmacies after more than 20 years.
"We feel it is the most appropriate course of action given the circumstances."
He assured that as JHL Pharmacy, they will maintain continuity.
"Our leadership and employees will be the same; store locations remain the same; our governance and accountability remain the same; and our business strategy – to maintain a size of organisation that is both operationally and financially robust, which can provide sustainable employment opportunities, and a consistently high standard of customer service – remains the same.”
The rollout of the rebrand will commence in December 2025, with the pharmacy portfolio continuing to be operated by Mr Jhooty’s companies: Jhoots Healthcare Ltd and Pasab Ltd.
The issues surrounding multiple businesses trading as Jhoots Pharmacy, which are not owned or operated by Manjit Jhooty, have drawn the attention of various MPs and sparked debates in Parliament.
Care minister Stephen Kinnock had said in Parliament that Jhoots Pharmacy's services were poor and warned that its outlets could lose the right to dispense NHS prescriptions.
Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer had also promised to resolve the Jhoots Pharmacy situation "as quickly as possible".
Allied Pharmacies has recently taken over the management of 60 troubled Jhoots Pharmacy outlets in various parts of the country.
Allied had said that the majority of these locations are temporarily closed, and they are committed to reinstating essential pharmacy services.
