Law firm Browne Jacobson, which played a significant role in Knights Pharmacy's acquisition of 24 pharmacy stores from Avicenna Retail, has said the deal will strengthen the pharmacy retailer's operational footprint across South Wales.
The Browne Jacobson team, led by partner Paul Ray and supported by senior associate Patrick Berry and partner Vicky Tomlinson, played an instrumental role in helping Knights Pharmacy secure an eight-figure funding package from HSBC UK.
With this acquisition, Knights Chemists will manage over 70 pharmacies throughout England and Wales, and their turnover is projected to increase by 35 percent within the forthcoming year.
Founded in 1984, Knights Pharmacy is a family-owned business with roots in the West Midlands and South Wales.
The new acquisition is expected to enhance patient access to a broader range of clinical care, upgraded digital systems, and a dedicated team focused on delivering high-quality services.
Welcoming the acquisition, Knights Chemists managing director Anand Sodha said, “I’m incredibly pleased to be welcoming new pharmacies in Wales into the Knights family. These are well-respected community pharmacies with strong local roots, and this expansion reflects the trust we have in our teams across Wales, both existing and new. Most importantly, it allows us to serve even more patients in the Valleys.”
All the 240 existing staff members in the 24 Avicenna branches in the Rhondda and Cynon Valleys will be retained across the newly acquired sites, ensuring continuity of service.
HSBC UK relationship director Partho Bose said, “We've worked closely with the team at Knights Pharmacy for several years, supporting growth across England and Wales. The company’s drive and community-centred approach aligns with our desire to back ambitious businesses."
He also thanked Browne Jacobson "for its trusted support along the way.”
