The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has appointed Daiichi Sankyo UK general manager Laura McMullin as its vice-president.

She will work closely with ABPI president Russell Abberley and support the ABPI in its mission to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop, and use medicines and vaccines.

At Daiichi Sankyo, McMullin leads the UK team in creating and supplying innovative products for the NHS in the fields of cardiovascular disease and oncology.

McMullin said it is a 'privilege' to take on this role at ABPI at such a pivotal time for our industry.

"I’m looking forward to working closely with Russell and Richard, and the wider ABPI team. Representing a Japanese company with a long-standing commitment to the UK, I am keen to focus on improving the sector environment and patient access to our medicines.”

ABPI president Abberley, who is the general manager of Amgen UK & Ireland, said: “I am pleased to be working alongside Laura to drive meaningful progress within the life sciences sector here in the UK.

ABPI chief executive Richard Torbett said, “We’re delighted to welcome Laura as our new Vice-President. She brings deep industry expertise and a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes. I look forward to working with Laura and Russell.”

McMullin began her career at AstraZeneca, where she worked for three years across various functional areas, from sales to marketing.

She then spent 18 years at Bristol Myers Squibb and held many roles across various therapeutic areas.

McMullin then worked as managing director of Pierre-Fabre UK and Ireland from 2018 to 2023.

She joined Daiichi Sankyo UK as General Manager in April 2024.
