Haloperidol 5ml solution, Nalcrom 100mg capsules, Prednisolone 5mg suppositories face supply disruption

The Department of Health and Social Care (DH) has issued a medicine supply notification for Haloperidol 5mg/5ml sugar free poral solution of Thame Laboratories.

Haloperidol 5mg/5ml poral sugar free solution will remain out of stock until March 2021

Limited supplies will remain available from Pinewood Healthcare however they are unable to support any uplift in demand, DH has said.

Haloperidol (Haldol) 2mg/ml oral solution is the only licensed oral solution that can support a steep rise in demand.

Haloperidol 500microgram, 1.5mg, 5mg and 10mg tablets will be available in pharmacies.

Nova Laboratories, Quantum Pharmaceuticals, and Rockshaw Laboratories have confirmed they can supply unlicensed haloperidol 5mg/5ml sugar free oral solution.

When prescribing a product that is not licensed in the UK prescribers must indicate on the FP10 prescription that an unlicensed product is required. This can be done by annotating the prescription with the wording special order.

There is currently no listing on dm+d for the imported product for prescribers to select using their prescribing systems. If a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, a paper prescription should be issued as ‘Haloperidol 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free (Special Order)‘ and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special.

Nalcrom 100mg capsules

Nalcrom (sodium cromoglicate) 100mg will remain out of stock until late November.

Unlicensed imports of sodium cromoglicate 100mg capsules have been sourced, the DH has said in a release.

Alium Medical, Mawdsleys Unlicensed, and Target Healthcare have confirmed that they can source unlicensed sodium cromoglicate 100mg capsules.

Prednisolone 5mg suppositories

DH has issued another medicine supply notification for Prednisolone 5mg suppositories.

Prednisolone 5mg suppositories are expected to remain out of stock until end of July 2020 due to manufacturing issues, the DH has said.

Unlicensed supplies of prednisolone 5mg suppositories have been sourced, however lead times will vary.

Alium Medical, Clinigen, and Mawdsleys have confirmed that they can source unlicensed prednisolone 5mg suppositories.
