Millenium Pharmacy owner takes over high-dispensing Wigan pharmacy

The deal was struck in under eight weeks after the former owner decided to sell it to pursue a well-earned retirement

J England Pharmacy Limited in Wigan, Greater Manchester, has been sold to Stuart Ellis, the owner of Millenium Pharmacy in St.Helens, following a confidential sales process, Christie & Co announced on Wednesday.

The community pharmacy, located on Gidlow Lane, adjoining Beech Hill Medical Practice, dispenses an average of 17,678 items per month, according to the specialist business property adviser.

It was established in the early 1960s by Doug England, who handed over the business to his son, Warren, in 1995.

Former owner Warren England recently decided to sell the high-dispensing pharmacy for the first time to pursue a “well-earned retirement.”

Commenting on the sale of J England Pharmacy, Warren said: “I am pleased that the legacy of the pharmacy business that my father founded in the 1960s has been passed on to such a safe pair of hands in the shape of Stuart. I wish him and his team the very greatest of success.”

New owner, Stuart, who also runs an aesthetics supply business at his previous community pharmacy, now plans to make full use of the location and position of both pharmacies to grow the services offering and enhance the brand profile.

Stuart commented, “I am hugely excited to be taking over J England Pharmacy. My interest in community pharmacy began at the age of 14 when I was working at a long-established family-owned pharmacy business, and so it is an honour to take on the legacy of this similar business which aligns with my own long-held values and beliefs around community pharmacy. I’d like to thank Warren for his openness throughout the process and wish him a very happy retirement.”

Jon Booth, Director – Pharmacy at Christie & Co informed that the deal was struck in under eight weeks, with funding sourced through David Ward at Christie Finance. However, they didn’t reveal the value of the deal.
