Over 70m doses of Covid-19 delivered so far

Over 70 million Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to the adults in the UK up until now, according to latest government figures.

A total of 29,165,140 million people have successfully received both the doses of the vaccine, totalling around 55.4 per cent of the population.

The exact number of doses administered so far are 70,253,625 million in total, while 41,088,485 million people across the UK received their first dose of vaccine (78 per cent).

Health secretary Matt Hancock said: “Our Covid-19 vaccination programme continues at an unparalleled pace and we are almost at the final lap of the race to offer a dose to all adults by the end of July.”

He added: “70 million total doses is a phenomenal achievement. It’s truly heartening to think that this provides 70 million shots of protection and hope for a country that has battled to keep the infection under control over the past 18 months.”

Urging all those who are eligible to get their jab at the earliest possible opportunity, Hancock said the appointments booked over the past few days have shown the nation’s “enthusiasm” towards getting vaccinated.

According to a recent study by Public Health England (PHE), two doses of the Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective against the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant.

Vaccine efficacy against symptomatic disease from the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant is similar after two doses compared to the Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant. We expect to see even higher levels of effectiveness against hospitalisation and death, Hancock said.
