Supply alert for Intal CFC-free 5mg inhaler

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a medicine supply disruption alert for Sanofi's sodium cromoglicate (Intal) CFC-free 5mg inhalers.

These inhalers will remain out of stock until mid-November, DHSC has said, adding that unlicensed supplies have been sourced in sufficient quantities to cover the out of stock period.

There is currently no listing on dm+d for the imported product for prescribers to select using their prescribing systems so an EPS prescription for unlicensed Sodium cromoglicate 5mg CFC-free inhaler cannot be issued.

If a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, an FP10 paper prescription should be issued as ‘Sodium Cromoglicate 5mg CFC-free inhaler (Special Order)‘ and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special.
