Key Summary
- CPE added three new independent pharmacy representatives
- They were fast-tracked and co-opted to serve until 2027
- One CCA seat was removed and a longtime member stepped down
The Community Pharmacy England (CPE) has inducted three new members into the committee to “better reflect” the sector.
Has Modi, managing director of Jardines (UK) Ltd, and Mayank Patel, superintendent pharmacist of Pearl Chemist Group, and Dervis Gurol, Healthy-U Pharmacy, an Independent NHS pharmacy owner and a member of Sussex LPC, are three new members.
This is in addition to the three Committee Members elected by non-CCA multiples and, like them Has and Mayank have full voting rights.
Has Modi and Mayank Patel had completed a period as Observers to the committee before being nominated by the Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA).
Both of them will join the three committee members elected by non-CCA pharmacy groups, with full voting rights.
On the other hand, Dervis Gurol is selected to join the additional, interim independent representative spot.
He will work with ten independent pharmacy owner Committee members elected on a regional basis, known as Regional Representatives.
The appointment was made after independent pharmacy owners with one and nine pharmacies were invited to apply, followed by interviews.
Along with the recent addition of committee members, the number of the Company Chemists’ Association (CCA) representatives has been lowered by one.
Clare Kerr, a long-serving member from Rowlands Pharmacy and previously Lloyds Pharmacy, has stepped down.
The Committee, guided by independent expert advice and backed by the CCA, IPA, and National Pharmacy Association (NPA), reviewed and approved the latest changes in September.
The Executive Team implemented the changes before the November meeting, so the Committee had to co-opt all three new members instead of using the usual election process.
The three new members will take charge from November until the next elections in April 2027.
“The Committee is pleased to be welcoming new members and increasing representation from the independent and 10 plus (non-CCA) multiple parts of the sector,” commented Adrian Price, chair of CPE’s Governance and People Subcommittee.
Price added, “Has, Mayank and Dervis will begin feeding into the critical day-to-day work of Community Pharmacy England with immediate effect and we look forward to working with them.”
